My mom puts me in a box. I have no idea what’s going on. My ears are broken from the loud noise of the tape ripping off the roll. Then I realize… I'M BEING WRAPPED AS A PRESENT! The sound of the paper crackling hurts my ears even more. I get put in the pile with all the presents, and then my mom asks my dad “ Where is Sam?”

I am a bee. I am inside of a dark tunnel. I don’t know where I actually am or how I got in here because I'm a bee. I have the memory span of about 2 minutes. I don’t think I have much air left. I will die if I stop breathing. My wings are exhausted. My breathing is coming to an end. I am dying. I drop to the ground and die.

I barely moved an inch. I couldn’t risk ripping even a minutia of paper. I wasn’t sure if my shape would give away the surprise already, but I could risk being revealed. The pattern was turned into the inside, showing birthday cakes all across its area. It was Christmas time, so the inside-out birthday paper disguised it to be a Snow White wrapping paper. And finally, I was topped with a bow that was barely hanging on from the Dollar Store duct tape. I could barely wait to be revealed.

I’ve been in here for one whole hour. I can barely breathe in this box. Luckily, there are a few holes at the top. I heard people say, “Puppy,” and “She’ll be so excited.” My white fur keeps getting stuck to this tape that is creeping through the box. Some people started talking, so in response, I let out a bark. Let me rephrase…I tried to bark. A little girl’s voice got closer and closer. I was hopeful to be out of this dingy, dark box. As she opened the flaps of the box, light slowly seeped through. My eyes were met with a little girl whose hair was in two braids. Her hair was blonde, and she wore a Christmas gown that had illustrated reindeer on it. I was so happy to be a part of a new family.

I wait day and night for when I will be opened. The excitement overwhelms me every time I think about being opened. I can’t wait to see the look on the kids' faces when they open me. I count down the days, the hours, the minutes, and the seconds. Waiting...always waiting. The anxiety kills me. Always the questions in my head: What will they think of me? Will they even like me? Will they forget after they open me? Will they break me? This waiting and sitting has made me even more anxious.
Finally, only two days away! Then it hits me! No matter if they like me or not, I will be happy.
The day has arrived! I am the last one to be opened. The look on the children’s faces make it all worth it.
